Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about opening and running an Irish company.

How much does it cost to open an Irish company?
The CRO online filing fee is €50. With our software the total is €19–€99 plus the €50 CRO fee. A traditional solicitor or formation agent typically charges €500–€1,500 for the same paperwork.
How long does it take to incorporate?
Document preparation takes about 10 minutes with our wizard. CRO online processing is typically 5 business days. Total: under 2 weeks for a clean filing.
Can a non-resident open an Irish company?
Yes, 100% of shareholders can be non-resident. The constraint is on directors: at least one must be ordinarily resident in the EEA, or the company must hold a Section 137 bond.
What is a Section 137 bond?
An insurance bond required when no director is ordinarily resident in the EEA. Guarantees up to €25,000 to Revenue/CRO. Typical cost: €1,750–€2,300 for 2 years. Full guide →
What is the corporation tax rate in Ireland?
12.5% on trading income. 25% on passive income. Lowest in Western Europe.
Do I need an Irish address?
Yes — every company must have a registered office at a physical Irish address. Options: home address, virtual office (€150–€300/year), or accountant's address.
When do I need to register for VAT?
Above €42,500 services or €85,000 goods (rolling 12-month, 2026 thresholds). Full reference →
Can I use my home address as the registered office?
Yes, but it becomes public on the CRO register. Most non-resident or privacy-conscious founders prefer a virtual office.
What if my application is rejected by the CRO?
You can resubmit free of charge. Our Premium plan includes a Rejection Fixer AI: upload the CRO email and we regenerate the corrected documents in minutes.
Do I need a company secretary?
Yes. With one director the secretary must be a different person. With 2+ directors, one of them can be secretary.
How is GetIrishCompany different from a solicitor?
We are software, not a law firm. We prepare every document you need for €49 instead of €500–€1,500. You file with the CRO yourself.
Do you submit to the CRO on my behalf?
No. We prepare the documents; you submit via CORE yourself. The Concierge plan (€299+) connects you with a partner accountant who can file for you.
